It’s time to introduce you to the next maker in our Meet the Maker Series! This week, we’re so excited to introduce you to Katie & Nick Forte, the creatives and founders of June and December. We source our tea towels from June & December (most commonly found in our bestselling brunch boxes) but they create and design a whole range of eco-conscious gifts inspired by nature.

Tell us a little bit about your story! How did you get started?
We’re Katie + Nick Forte, the founders of June & December. We started June & December, named after the birth months of our kiddos because in 2010 we both had some life-changing experiences in our family that forced us to re-evaluate our life choices, which shifted our perspective to living our best life. From that point forward, we refocused our energy on a future working together, aligning our life choices with our values, and June & December was conceived out of that. We design and make eco-conscious gifts that celebrate the way nature connects us.
What do you love about the medium you work with?
I (Katie) work in many mediums, from hand drawing the artwork that are on all of our designs to creating patterns and packaging on the computer, to working with other eco-friendly elements when creating new prototypes. Nick and I collaborate on new products as well and it keeps it new and exciting and fuels our creativity which is why we love it!
If you could offer any advice to other creatives who are just starting out, what would you say?
There’s a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and missteps behind every pretty picture and great product you see. We would recommend setting expectations accordingly and believe that success is not a one-size-fits-all definition. Find what success means to you and stay true to your values which will keep your work authentically you.
What are the best ways for people to support you right now?
The best way for people to support us right now is to support your favorite small businesses! Small businesses drive your community and the economy and they’re buying from other small businesses (like us) from around the country!
